Sun Jan 29

  • Homework.
  • Reading.
  • Gym.
  • Sleep.
The new Google toolbar is so cool, but it's in IE-only beta right now. I could never cheat on Firefox, not even for Google.

Sat Jan 28

  • Not much.
  • Every once in a while I make genstures of attention to my childhood mentor: Star Trek. Now is such a time.

Here is some video I shot at the museum with my little Powershot:

Fri Jan 27

  • Studio.
  • Gym. The roommate came too! He has a date tomorrow so he's hoping a one-day-hustle will do the trick. May he have more dates (I get lonely).
  • On the third day, the laundry was folded.
I favor the unknown.

Thu Jan 26

  • A happy chappy never wakes 'fore noon.
  • My Realism vs. Naturalism class was at the American Museum of Natural History. Fancy!
  • We had a worksheet with questions to answer about the museum. How high school.
  • I ditched my poor partner and took some pictures & shot some video. I'll go back to those and answer the questions later. Like, next Thursday, two hours before it's due.
  • I paid the new Darwin exhibit a visit (which I had been meaning to do), but they closed the hall two hours early. I got a free rain check ticket.
  • Dropped by Pakistan to vote for Hamas before going home.
  • The gym was mighty fine.
  • My phone rang last night with a call from a studiomate who is putting on a show. I didn't audition but she implored me to come to the callbacks tomorrow (today). I suited up and headed out. (P.S. I didn't get a part in the show. Hmpff)
  • At 10:30 I closed my eyes.
  • At 4:30 I fell asleep.
I got some great shots at the Museum of Natural History and they're on Flickr now (link to the left, or here if you get this with a reader - in which case, why don't you just subscribe to the Flickr feed? You already have? Wonderful!) and I may post some of the video I shot, just for S&G.

Wed Jan 25

  • Studio!
  • Girl Kyle and I began to devise a plot by which we would go to MN or FL over spring break and pose as students from an invented high school to participate in a speech tournament. Of course, we'll need to bring along some uninitiated Adlerites.
  • Got our scene assignments in Jimmy's class and Don's class.
  • Don gave me very positive feedback on my movement projects (we have to do them again just for our voice and speech teacher who missed them).
  • Gym.
  • Quiznos.
  • Book.
  • Laundry.
  • Bed.
She no longer occupies my idle thoughts, but I was racked today with the guilt of having missed the gym yesterday. Curious.

Tue Jan 24

  • My Politics of Portraiture class is shaping up to be mostly bullshit.
  • I staked out the caff for several hours and finished my book.
  • When home.
  • Didn't go to the gym.
Three days ago, I finally felt I had real hair again. I forgot to post it.

Monday, January 23, 2006

Mon Jan 23

  • First real day of studio.
  • Our schedule isn't so hot.
  • Sang a song.
  • Gym.
  • End.
Much of what I say is bullshit.

Sun Jan 22

  • Woke and went home.
  • Read a little.
  • Watched Firefly at Lex's.
  • Went home again.
  • Did homework and read for class.
It is my plan to become the most powerful person in the world for the purpose of permanently improving the human condition.

Saturday, January 21, 2006

Sat Jan 21

  • Read a lot at the caff.
  • Arrived at Nick N's birthday dinner as I do at all scheduled events: late.
  • Spent the night at Nick's with Lex. Nick, Lex and I are living together next year.
Beep Beep

Fri Jan 20

  • POETRY PROJECTS!
  • My project centers around a homeless cross-dresser who runs for mayoral office in Austin, TX named Leslie Cochran. As is the case with most of my last-minute-preparation projects, I knocked 'em out of the park. Praise be!
  • I took a lot of pictures at studio today, so check them out on my Flickr stream (link on the left).
  • Gym, home, relax, read.
I love nothing in the world so well as myself. Is not that typical?

Thu Jan 19

  • First day of Modern Drama class. I like it well enough.
  • Started working in earnest on my poetry project around 7 pm. Finished at about 2:30. I took 20 minute breaks every half hour or so, so it was not the most productive thing ever.

Wed Jan 18

  • First day back at studio.
  • We watched poetry projects all day. I go on Friday and, naturally, I haven't done any significant work.

Wednesday, January 18, 2006

Tue Jan 17

  • Breakfast. Fancy!
  • First day of class. It was nice.
  • Wasted time too.
  • Etc.
Ephemerrific!

Tuesday, January 17, 2006

Mon Jan 16

  • Yesterday was wild but it's behind us now.
  • Dropped by studio to get the new group assignments.
  • Used the first of my meal-plan meals.
  • Shopped and relaxed.
  • Went to the gym.
  • During my post-gym snack, I joined in on a conversation that two guys were having at the table next to me. We talked for almost two and a half hours about religion, philosophy, science, culture and gum. It was fun.
Distractions are all we have.

Sun Jan 15

At this very moment my roommate is hurling into the toilet for the fifth time. He's just dry-heaving at this point, but the noise is terrific. It sounds like a number of donkeys are dying violently in the other room. I suppose this is an improvement over the PROJECTILE VOMITING earlier in the subway station and on the subway itself! The other occupant of the car was very supportive ("Take care of yourself, man"), but I'm sure the MTA cleaning crew will be non too happy.
So I should backup the story a little. I (he just went in for #6) got into New York and hopped the SuperShuttle as I always do. The driver went around collecting the addresses from all of the passengers the girl next to me give a very familiar locale. Hey, she lives in my building! So we chat it up - smalltalk and stuff. She's a dance major, she lives on the 10th floor (I'm on the 18th), and that kind of jazz. I think she's nice and all, but I'm not really interested interested in her. We haul our lugage into the elevator, she get's off at 10, I get off and 18, and check in with home sweet home.
Later that night, roommate tells me there's a knocking at the door (speaking of him, things sound pretty intense in there right now) and he can't answer it because he's watching 24. Suprise! It's my SuperSuttle pal and two of her friends from 10. Sensing girls, roommate (who just crawled back into bed, hopefully for good this time) mutes the TV and (false alarm - back at it again) joins our meet and greet in the kitchen. We alternate smalltalk and my usual antics and it's clear that roommate really digs one of the ladies - my origonal airport aquintance. He suggests we all go out to a bar or something. Well these girls wouldn't be able to decide about when to breathe if it weren't an autonomic function, so we eventually convince them that yes, they do want to come - I'm just going along with roommate.
We - excuse me - he takes about half an hour to get ready (we said we'd me them downstairs in ten) and I call Lex while I'm waiting to say "Hi, I'm back!" She informs me that there is a party at Nick K's and I should come. I never get formally invited to these things, not because I'm not welcome (I hope), but because I generally don't hit the parties, so no one thinks of inviting me. I say I'll try to make it.
We meet the older girls and head to the Village. We decide on Caliente and everyone else gets margaritas (I shared some w/ the girl). They're nice ladies, but not really my type. Sort of boring, if you know what I mean. Roommate says he's getting "mixed signals" from his interest and the other two are just pretty tired. We invite them to the party but they just think they'll get some sleep. Fine with us. Goodnight. Buh-bye.
We make the party scene and everyone I know is there, which is great because I usually don't like parties with a lot of strangers (most parties), so I got to have a really nice time. I find out later that this is a birthday party for Nick K (he and I are friends, but not really good friends. It's a complex dynamic between us; we're both secretely jealous of each other, I suspect). We sing and dance but there's no cake. (He is still going at it. I can't believe this; it just doesn't let up!) I did manage to meet some new folks and I'm pretty sure I got hit on by a girl named Sara and a guy named Drew. More people showed up later, like a bombed Scarlette, the two Kiles, and Kerry. Lizz got smahed out of her fucking skull, as usual, and Dara and I had a lovely conversation (she's a sweety).
Three O'Clock rolled around and I remember that roommate said we should leave by two, so I make the gestures of departure. I get roomy - who is thoroughly drunk, if you hadn't guessed - and we make our exit. I don't feel like waiting for the safty van, so we head for the subway. He's pretty proud about getting two - no wait, three [phone] numbers!

It's not funny anymore.

Thur Jan 12

  • Today my son fixed my printer after many hard hours of configuring and intuiting.
  • I retreated to my basement layer and tinkered with my antiques while the little bugger spent the rest of the day on his mother's computer downloading what I can only imagine is illegal music and porn.
  • We had some nice father-son time watching the evening news and eating pistachios together.
  • I took a shower and, like the courteous gentleman I've taught him to be, he allowed me to enjoy full water pressure before showering himself.
  • After dinner, the little nipper beat me at chess. Twice!
  • Unable to bear further shame, I made a beeline for bed.
  • As I drifted into the ether of a dreamscape, I could swear I heard the distinctive banter of Jon Stewart radiating from the family room bellow.
  • I dreamt of threesomes.

Wed Jan 11

  • Hung around the house.
  • Had dinner at Brit's.
  • Hung some more.
NE moderates set a red omen.

Tue Jan 10

  • Steve was underwhelming.
  • Watched a lot of stuff.
  • Didn't do much else.
I've got a new favorite.

Tuesday, January 10, 2006

Mon Jan Nine

  • Up at 9. Ante meridiem this time!
  • Breakfast, you old coot! It's been too long.
  • Lunch at Macaroni Grill.
  • Mom and me, off to buy some cloths!
  • And cool cloths they are, if I don't say so myself.
  • Steve even liked them!
  • But shenanigans with Steve aren't quite as shenanigany as shenanigans with Steve and Cora!
  • Remember when I said they were cool cloths? Well I lied a little. The hoody was a size too small. But fear not, intrepid reader, for our fable reaches glorious climax at the next bullet point!
  • We exchanged it for a bigger size.
  • Steve and I paid good money for a song that Johnny Rocket's never played! Next time, I'm keeping the nickels they give out for the music machine.
  • The Apple store will not be showing Steve's speech on their theater screen tomorrow. They are douches.
  • Steve had to walk the dog. That's not a euphemism. And that's not sarcastic.
  • Remember when I said that was the climax? Well it's pathological. Cora and I journeyed the land far and wide until we lay eyes upon the glowing beacon of Joy: HOT!
  • We cruised the town in our stylish Krispy Kreme hats looking for open ice skating.
  • We did not find any.
  • I came home, and that's more or less the end.
"I was nervous from the start
That our muscles might tear us apart.
...
One day I'll fail to breathe
And all you'll have are memories."

- Motion City Soundtrack (song)

Saturunday, January 21.5

  • I woke at 8 on Saturday. PM. 8 PM Saturday night.
  • OK, drastic times, drastic measures.
  • Stay up aaaaaall night and aaaaaall day Sunday.
  • It was tough, and 3 hours of Munich didn't help, but I made it to 8PM Sunday without dozing off.
  • I use this expression a lot, but never have I employed it with such verve: Sweet, sweet sleep!
uuuuuuuuuuuUUUUUUUUUUGH!

  • Almost had stuff goin' on tonight.
  • Talked at Sam.
  • Finished off the Kong production diaries and misc. other torrents.
When the Universe hoses us all, it won't matter how nihilistic* I was because no one will be there to remember me.

* You can play this one to a slightly different effect with "narcissistic."

Wed Jan Four

  • Woke up at 4pm.
  • Watched the Rose Bowl.
  • Computer stuff.
Involuntary Action
I will hunt for you. I'll catch, kill and clean wonderful things and don't forget, they're for you. My stealth is shit, but these tools I've got are the stealth. Double-barrel sarcasm. Five-gauge body language. I sleep with a lie under my pillow. I will track my pray through thickets of social grace and freezing rivers of assumption. I won't make a peep. Not a move or a twitch until those crosshairs frame the beautiful smile of my winner prize. It poisons my dreams for a month, but boy, what a kill! Oozing so much, it looks like fun. I have lessened the world a wonder and I do it for you. Too good to eat, I agree. I'll just take the picture and the badge and the sleeping pills.

  • Free food at the social open house.
  • Gosh, I was sooo tired, but I can't fall asleep.
One second is 9,192,631,770 cycles of a ceasium-133 atom. When you put it that way, the loss seems more dramatic.

The Last Day of 2005

  • Finished my book last night (Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman, if you're curious to know).
  • Worked on a computer project most of the day.
  • Cleaned.
  • Increased the size of Erin's party by 33%.
  • Defected to Cora's party (Erin had much better food).
  • Hobnobbed, shmoozed and chattered away the rest of the year.
  • Dorked, fooled and horsed around the first three hours of aught six.
  • Some pics (more on Flickr):

My thoughts are loud,
My heart is torn;
I smile for I am forlorn.
